Overview

Advanced Fellowship in Gastroenterology & Endoscopy

SIAG offers advanced fellowship opportunities for gastroenterologists who have completed their specialist training (FCPS or equivalent). These fellowships are designed to develop specialist expertise in research and advanced endoscopy.

Program Structure

The Advanced Fellowship Program is a total of 3 years, which includes:

  • 1 year of Research Fellowship focused on endoscopy related research projects.
  • 2 years of Advanced Clinical Fellowship providing comprehensive exposure to advanced endoscopic procedures.

Fellows are expected to perform diagnostic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and OGD independently while participating in cutting edge research projects under the supervision of endoscopy consultants. Fellows completing the research fellowship are eligible to transition into the Advanced Clinical Fellowship.

Advanced Endoscopic Techniques

Exposure to ERCP, EUS, double balloon enteroscopy, POEM, ESG, and advanced procedures for patients with IBD, polyposis, and hereditary cancers.

Research Publications

Participation in research with a goal of publishing manuscripts during the research fellowship.

Teaching & Academic Activities

Opportunities to contribute to training courses, develop educational materials, and support academic activities. Mandatory attendance at weekly educational sessions, journal clubs, and conferences.

Clinical Rotations

Participation in endoscopy and gastroenterology on-call rota with support for endoscopy list coverage as needed.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Completed gastroenterology fellowship (FCPS or equivalent).
  • Ability to perform core endoscopic procedures independently.
  • Commitment to clinical, research, and educational duties.

Your Role

Clinical & Research Responsibilities

  • Design, coordinate, and execute multiple research projects related to endoscopy.
  • Minimum of 2 clinical sessions per week during research fellowship.
  • Independently evaluate patients, collect and analyze data, and present findings.
  • Contribute to research publications.
